When Should My Child Start Dance Classes?
When Is the Best Age for Kids to Start Dance?
At Steps 2 Stardom, we often get asked: "When is the best time for my child to start dance?" The answer? Sooner than you might think! Dance classes offer far more than just movement—they foster coordination, creativity, confidence, and social skills. Our Ready Set Move and Ready Set Dance programs are designed for toddlers as young as 18 months, gradually introducing them to music, rhythm, and movement in fun, engaging ways.
From walking age to preschool, these early years are a golden window for developing gross motor skills, body awareness, and musicality. It's during this phase that children are most receptive to learning through play. Starting young also makes the transition to independent classes like Ready Set Dance smoother and less intimidating.
Early dance education isn’t about mastering choreography—it’s about learning to listen, follow instructions, and move with joy. Our toddler and preschool classes use colourful props, themed music, and imaginative play to gently guide children through basic techniques. More importantly, they build resilience and classroom confidence—skills that benefit them far beyond the studio.
If your child loves music, twirls through the lounge room, or can’t sit still during a song, it’s probably time to explore dance! Come try a class and see how much fun learning can be.
